چکیده

A number of criticisms Utilitarianism – such as “nearest and dearest” objections, “demandingness” “altruistic” objections arise because doesn’t permit partially or wholly disregarding the utility certain subjects. authors, including Sider (1993), Portmore (2008) Vessel (2010), have responded to these by suggesting we adopt “dual-maximizing” theories which provide a way incorporate disregarding. And in response particular noting that it seems permissible make utility- decreasing sacrifices authors suggested adopting dual-maximizing theory permits one’s own utility. 
 In this paper I’ll defend two claims. First, argue are poor Instead, suggest “variable- disregarding” more attractive Second, right handle isn’t utility, it’s those who consent. Together, claims entail best modify is variable-disregarding view disregards
